Responsibilities of membership

“Rotary offers a totally new perspective of friendship, since it is neither fully private nor fully professional”

Susanne Prahl-Landzo,
Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Rotary clubs are the cornerstone of Rotary, since it is within the clubs where the work is made more meaningful.
All effective Rotary clubs are responsible for complying with the following four principles: retain and increase the number of partners involved in projects that benefit their own community and communities in other countries.

The Rotary Foundation of RI through financial contributions and participation in its programs, and developing leaders capable of serving in Rotary beyond the club level.
The Rotarians receive remuneration as a result of their affiliation with Rotary depending on the personal commitment to the organization. Many membership requirements are to help members to participate fully and enjoy the experience of being a Rotarian.

. Assistance. The attendance of members at weekly meetings of the club gives them the opportunity to enjoy fellowship, enrich their professional and personal skills, and meet other business leaders in the community. In many cities different clubs operate with different club meeting times: in the early hours of the morning, during lunch, after office hours and at night.

. If a member can not attend a club meeting to which it belongs, they are encouraged to expand their Rotary horizons by attending a meeting to compensate for the absence at any other Rotary club in the world, a practice that guarantees Rotarians a warm welcome everywhere. To find out times and meeting places of any Rotary club, the Official Directory or go to www.rotary.org, click on the box "Spanish" and then "Find a club."

In some cases, Rotarians can make up absences to participate in a service project of the club or attending a board meeting the club or the meeting of a Rotaract or Interact club. Absences may also trade online, participating in the meeting of a cyber club.

Service. In providing service club projects, members learn about the club's participation in local and international initiatives and can contribute their time and expertise in areas where they are most needed.

Recruitment and retention of members. In order that the clubs maintain a robust operation, every Rotarian must assume the responsibility of bringing new partners. Even the newly affiliated members can bring guests to Rotary club meetings and seek their participation in a project service.

The value of Rotary speaks for itself, and the best way to generate interest among potential partners is making it possible to experience the spirit of comradeship and service.

Another responsibility of the leadership of the club is to keep members interested in Rotary. The two best strategies to retain members are those relating to the spirit of camaraderie and the rapid inclusion of new member in service activities. The ideal composition of a Rotary club reflects the diversity of its community, including profession, gender, age and ethnic groups, thus strengthening each aspect of service and fellowship activities of the club.

Guiding Principles of Rotary

Throughout its history, Rotary has developed several basic principles to guide Rotarians in achieving the ideal of service and high ethical principles.

. The Object of Rotary. The Object of Rotary first formulated in 1910 and adapted through the years as Rotary's mission expanded, provides a succinct definition of the purposes of the organization and individual responsibilities regarding each member of a Rotary club.

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, encourage and foster:

. . FIRST. The mutual understanding and friendship as an opportunity for service;
. . SECOND. Adherence to high ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the value of all useful occupations and the dignifying of each Rotarian for the benefit of society;
. . THIRD.The implementation of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's private life, professional and public;
. FOURTH. Understanding, goodwill and peace among nations, through the fellowship of people involved in business professionals, united in the ideal of service.
The principle of the classifications. The system by which each partner is assigned a classification according to their business or profession ensures that the box office of each club is representative of the business and professional life of the community.

The number of people holding each classification depends on the number of club members. It achieves a level of diversity and professional, able to boost the club's social atmosphere and provide a rich source of job experience to perform service projects, which will, in addition, the future leaders of the club.

Four-Way Test.
Practiced by Rotarians worldwide in their professional lives and their business, Four-Way Test was created by former President Herbert J. RI Taylor in 1932 and has since been translated into over 100 languages and is used by organizations and individuals around the world.

What we think, say or do
1. - What is the TRUTH?
2. - Is it FAIR? For all concerned? .
3. - Create GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? .
4. - Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Avenues of Service. Four Avenues of Service based on the Object of Rotary, are the cornerstone of the philosophy of Rotary and the foundation on which to develop the work of the clubs:

. Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and seeks to ensure the smooth running of the club.

. . The Service through the Occupation encourages Rotarians to serve their fellow men through their professional or business and promotes the implementation of high ethical standards.

. The Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life quality comunidad. community.
